The American Standard Version (ASV) of the Bible is one of the most popular translations of the Bible into English. It was originally created in the late 1800s by two Bible translation teams from the United States. One team was composed of Protestant scholars from the United States and Canada, and the other team was made up of Catholic scholars from Ireland, Germany, and France. The two groups met in 1876 and began the process of creating a new translation of the Bible.

When the project was first announced, the two teams had many differences of opinion. The most prominent of these differences was the inclusion of the apocrypha in the new translation. The Catholic team wanted to include all of the apocrypha in the new translation, while the Protestant team did not. This conflict was not only between two groups of scholars, but also between the two churches.

The two groups continued to debate the matter, and after many hours of discussion, the two groups agreed to include the apocrypha in the new translation. The new translation, which was published in 1901, included the apocrypha as a separate book. The Catholic team, which included a large number of Catholic clergy, thought that this separation was a good idea. The Protestant team, which included many Protestant clergy, did not agree with the separation and thought that it should be removed from the new translation.
